SYMPTOMS

On a computer that is running Microsoft Mobile Information 2001 Server, you may experience all the following symptoms:

  • When a user tries to log on to Microsoft Outlook Mobile Access for Exchange 5.5, that user receives the following error message:

    500 – Internal Server Error

    Note Outlook Mobile Access for Exchange 5.5 is a component of Mobile Information 2001 Server. You log on by typing http://MISservername/OMA55 on the device.
  • If you restart Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS), the next connection attempt to Outlook Mobile Access is successful. However, after about 20 minutes, the user who successfully connected to Outlook Mobile Access again receives the following error message:

    500 – Internal Server Error

    After the user receives this error message, no new connections can be made with Mobile Information 2001 Server.
  • If you view the IIS log file, you notice information that is similar to the following:

    Note By default, the IIS log files have the name Exyymmdd.log and are located in the following folder:

    %WINDIR%\System32\LogFiles\W3SVC1

Note You may also experience these symptoms when you run Mobile Information 2001 Server together with Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if you run Mobile Information 2001 Server on a Microsoft Windows 2000 Server-based computer. This problem occurs because of a crash in Httpconext.dll. In this scenario, Httpconext.dll may dereference an invalid pointer.

Note You may experience this problem more frequently after you upgrade to Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (SP4).

Prerequisites

No prerequisites are required to install this hotfix.

Restart requirement

You do not have to restart your computer after you apply this hotfix. However, all the following services are automatically stopped and then restarted when you install this hotfix:

  • Mobile Information Server Message Processor
  • World Wide Web Publishing Service
  • Mobile Information Server SMTP Connector Service
  • Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP)
  • Network News Transfer Protocol (NNTP)
  • IIS Admin Service

Hotfix replacement information

This hotfix does not replace any other hotfixes.

File information

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.
