INTRODUCTION
The Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2003 Reference Guide does not give a complete list of permissions for Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI). This Microsoft Knowledge Base article contains the complete list.
You can set permissions for WMI namespaces by using the Microsoft Management Console (MMC). To set the permissions, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click Run, type compmgmt.msc, and then click OK.
- Under Computer Management (Local), expand Services and Applications, right-click WMI Control, and then click Properties.
- Click the Security tab, expand Root, click CIMV2, and then click Security.
Note To set the permissions for the Root\Default\WINRTC_REPOSITORY namespace, expand Root, expand DEFAULT, click WINRTC_REPOSITORY, and then click Security.
Permissions for the Root\CIMV2 namespace
The Real-time Communications (RTC) Local Administrators group, the RTC Local User Administrators group, and the RTC Server Local Group have the same set of access control entries (ACEs). The ACEs are as follows:
- Provider Write = allow
- Enable Account = allow
- Remote Enable = allow
Permissions for the Root\DEFAULT\WINRTC_REPOSITORY namespace
The RTC Local Administrators group and the RTC Server Local Group have same set of ACEs. The ACEs are as follows:
- Provider Write = allow
- Enable Account = allow
- Remote Enable = allow

The Remote Enable ACE may not be defined for the RTC Local Administrators group on the CIMV2 namespace or on the WINRTC_REPOSITORY namespace. If this behavior occurs, you may not be able to view the server that is listed under the server node on remote computers that have Administrative Tools installed for Live Communications Server 2003.
It may be easier to reset the WMI permissions by removing and reinstalling Live Communications Server 2003. You will have the option to keep the database and information in Active Directory. If you keep the database and information in Active Directory, you can reinstall without losing user data and without having to re-enable users for Live Communications Server 2003.
