SYMPTOMS
Your Microsoft Windows 2000-based Remote Installation Services (RIS) server sends out DHCPInform packets. This DHCPInform traffic may saturate the router log files. This issue may occur even if you set the DisableRogueDetection registry entry in the following subkey to a value of 1 to prevent the RIS server from sending out the DHCPInform packets:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\DHCPServer\Parameters
CAUSE
This problem occurs because the RIS server does not correctly process the DisableRogueDetection registry entry value if the DHCP service is not installed and running on the same server. The RIS server does look for the DisableRogueDetection registry entry value, but the RIS server does not read the value correctly.
