SYMPTOMS

On your Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 computer, you may experience the following problem. When you run a program that uses the incremental change synchronization API to synchronize Exchange information stores, a memory leak occurs.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the incremental change synchronization API makes function calls to the IExchangeExportChanges::Synchronize() method or to the IExchangeExportChanges::UpdateState() method.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next service pack that contains this hotfix.

Restart requirement

You do not have to restart your computer to install this hotfix. However, the following Exchange services are automatically restarted when you install this hotfix:

  • Microsoft Exchange MTA Stacks
  • Microsoft Exchange Information Store
  • Microsoft Exchange System Attendant
