SYMPTOMS
Your Windows 2000 Server-based DNS servers may create several SerialNo objects. The high number of SerialNo objects may cause the Active Directory database file (.dit) size to grow and may increase Active Directory replication.
Note This symptom occurs if your Windows 2000 Server-based DNS servers are using Active Directory directory service-integrated zones.
CAUSE
This problem occurs if either of the following conditions is true:
- You have installed Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (SP4).
- You have applied the following hotfix:
836004 Reallocating an ACL for DNS zones on a Windows 2000-based server may take a long time and the database might grow

Prerequisites
You must have Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP3) installed.
Restart requirement
You must restart the DNS Server service after you apply this hotfix.
Hotfix replacement information
This hotfix replaces the hotfix that is described in Microsoft Knowledge Base article number 836004.
