Microsoft SQL Server 2000 fixes are distributed as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2000 fix release.
SYMPTOMS
When you try to compile and run certain queries, the SQL Server optimizer may occasionally return the following error message:
Note This problem is not limited to any particular query construct, database environment, or statistics distribution. The error message is based on certain costing inconsistencies that occur when the SQL Server optimizer calculates the cost that is associated with various possible query plans for the query.

Hotfix information
