SYMPTOMS
You may find that Web discussions do not work correctly when you use Web discussions features in Microsoft Internet Explorer to discuss a document that is stored in a Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2001 workspace. For example, you cannot start a discussion, or you receive a blank screen when you close a document that you are discussing.
CAUSE
This issue may occur if SharePoint Portal Server 2001 is deployed in an extranet environment and if certain registry entries that are required for Web discussions are not configured on the server.
RESOLUTION
To use Web discussions with SharePoint Portal Server 2001 in an extranet environment, you must modify the server registry and then restart the server. The "Web Discussions" topic in the "Chapter 12 - Deploying SharePoint Portal Server in an extranet environment" section of the Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2001 Resource Kit explains how to do this.
