SYMPTOMS

On a computer that is running Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 or Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server, you may experience the following symptoms:

  • A storage group on the Exchange computer stops responding. The storage group stops accepting client logons and client mail requests.
  • If you try to dismount a database in the storage group, the database becomes locked and does not dismount.
  • If you try to dismount a different database in the storage group after the first database is locked, you cannot do so. To regain functionality of the storage group, you must restart the Exchange computer.

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Restart requirement

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix. However, the following Microsoft Exchange services are automatically stopped and then restarted during the hotfix installation:

  • Microsoft Exchange Event
  • Microsoft Exchange Information Store
