Known issues in MDAC 2.70 (2.70.9001.0)
This MDAC release contains the following known issues:
- Versioning problems with clustered servers
If a clustered server is running Microsoft SQL Server 6.5 or SQL Server 7.0, installing MDAC 2.6 or MDAC 2.7 on that clustered server causes connectivity problems in the whole cluster. There is currently no workaround. Do not install MDAC 2.6 or MDAC 2.7 on a clustered server if it is running SQL Server 6.5 or SQL Server 7.0. There is no problem with SQL Server 2000 clusters using MDAC 2.6 or MDAC 2.7. There is no problem using MDAC 2.7 on a client that is connecting to a SQL Server 6.5 clustered server or a SQL Server 7.0 clustered server. - DSN issues
When you create or configure ODBC data source names (DSNs) by using the SQL Server ODBC driver, the following issues might occur:- Net-Library protocols might be switched.
- A new DSN protocol might be used for older DSNs or vice versa.
For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
289573 PRB: Configuring DSNs with SQL Server Net-libraries
- Connectivity issue with Windows XP
After you install Windows XP on your computer, you might experience difficulty establishing a connection to your server computer that is running SQL Server. The difficulty occurs when the network libraries check the certificates on your computer. Remove the certificates from your computer, or install SQL Server Service Pack 1, and then apply a registry key that prevents certificate validation. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:309398 PRB: SQL Server 2000 installation or local connections fail with "SSL Security error :ConnectionOpen (SECDoClientHandshake())" error message
- Analysis Services 2000 issues
You might not be able to browse cubes or process mining models after you install the original release version of Analysis Services 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:297232 FIX: Cannot browse cubes or process mining model after you Install Analysis Services 2000 RTM
- Connection to SQL Server fails after you install MDAC 2.6 or MDAC 2.7
The default network library for connecting to SQL Server has changed. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:289573 PRB: Configuring DSNs with SQL Server Net-Libraries
- Support for Banyan Vines
The earlier versions of MDAC supported the Banyan Vines network protocol. Starting with MDAC 2.7, this support has been dropped from the product. The source of this problem is that Banyan Vines does not support Windows XP. The Banyan Vines file is included with MDAC 2.7 and installs on Windows 2000 and earlier. The file is also included with Windows XP Professional, but you cannot use the file on that operating system. - Nested transaction errors
If you experience errors when you implement nested transaction with the OLE DB Provider for SQL Server, these errors might be caused by the settings for XACT_ABORT. For additional information about this issue and the resolution to this issue, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:306649 PRB: Error when you implement nested transaction with OLE DB Provider for SQL Provider
- MSXML3 and 64-bit installations
There are some differences between installing the MSXML3.dll file on a 64-bit system and on a 32-bit system. Specifically, the MSXLM3.dll file is installed in full replace mode on a 64-bit system. Side-by-side mode is the default mode for 32-bit systems. For additional information about the differences between side-by-side and full replace mode, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:303207 INFO: Installation of MSXML parser affects Run mode
- Over-localized ODBC Driver names in the ODBC Administrator’s drivers tab
In older versions of Microsoft Office, the Windows installer incorrectly looks for localized ODBC driver names. Therefore, many of the ODBC drivers have been localized into French, German, and Portuguese. Do not under any circumstances use or reference these drivers by any other program. These drivers will be removed from future versions of the MDAC components and from future versions of Windows. - Problem with Windows rollback
On a computer that is running Windows 98 or Windows Millennium Edition, if you try to roll your installation back to an earlier version, your computer will be left in a mixed state where your files will not all be from the same version of MDAC. This is caused by a problem with the setup technology that is included with this version of the operating system. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:311720 PRB: MDAC Rollback may fail on Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows Millennium Edition
- File list differences between 32-bit and 64-bit installations
The following 32-bit MDAC files are not installed on the 64-bit MDAC installation.dbmsgnet.dll dbmsrpcn.dll dbmssnet.dll dbmsvinn.dll dbrstprx.dll ds16gt.dll mscpx32r.dll mscpxl32.dll msdadc.dll msdaenum.dll msdaer.dll msdaora.dll msdaorar.dll msdasc.dll msdatt.dll msdaurl.dll msjro.dll msorc32r.dll msorcl32.dll odbc16gt.dll - Backward compatibility libraries for 64-bit
No backward compatibility libraries are included with the 64-bit operating system. These libraries were removed from the 64-bit operating system intentionally because there are no older versions of MDAC that run on a 64-bit operating system. The following files have been removed: msado20.tlb, msado21.tlb, msado25.tlb, msado26.tlb. - Running the 2.6 or 2.7 MDAC_TYP.exe on a computer that is running Windows XP
If you try to run the MDAC 2.6 MDAC_TYP.exe file or the MDAC 2.7 MDAC_TYP.exe file on Windows XP, the process appears to complete successfully, and a successful installation of the MDAC components is reported. However, no files are updated on your system. If you want to upgrade Windows XP to a new service pack level of the MDAC components, it is best to obtain the Windows XP service pack release. This release will contain the new service pack level of MDAC.
