SYMPTOMS

When you try to add your password for your e-mail account in Microsoft Entourage X, the password is not retained. This behavior occurs even if the Save password in my Mac OS keychain check box is selected.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when the keychain entry for your e-mail account is damaged.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, repair your Mac OS X keychain. To do this, follow these steps for the version of Mac OS X that is on your Macintosh computer.

Mac OS X 10.3 or later

To repair your keychain under Mac OS X 10.3 or later, follow these steps:

  1. On the Go menu, click Applications.
  2. Open the Utilities folder.
  3. Start Keychain Access.
  4. On the Windows menu, click Keychain First Aid.
  5. Type your Mac OS X logon name and password.
  6. Click Repair, and then click Start.
  7. After the repair function is completed, click Verify, and then click Start.


Note If you receive any error messages after you click Start, repeat steps 6 and 7. If you still receive error messages after you have repeated steps 6 and 7, the keychain entry that you marked is damaged.

  1. Quit Keychain First Aid.
  2. Locate and then select the keychain entry that could not be repaired.
  3. Click Delete two times.
  4. Repeat steps 10 and 11 for each keychain entry that was not repaired.

Mac OS X 10.1 and Mac OS X 10.2

To repair your keychain under Mac OS X 10.1 and Mac OS X 10.2, you must first download the Keychain First Aid 1.0 utility from the following AppleCare Web site

and then follow the instructions about how to install this utility.

To repair your keychain under Mac OS X 10.1 and Mac OS X 10.2, follow these steps:

  1. On the Go menu, click Applications.
  2. Open the Utilities folder.
  3. Start Keychain First Aid.
  4. Type your Mac OS X logon name and password.
  5. Click Repair, and then click Start.
  6. After the repair function is completed, click Verify, and then click Start.


Note If you receive any error messages after you click Start, repeat steps 6 and 7. If you still receive error messages after you have repeated steps 6 and 7, the keychain entry that you marked is damaged.
