SYMPTOMS

When you send Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) e-mail messages from a SMTP virtual server on a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computer, you may receive an e-mail delivery status report that contains information about other active SMTP sessions. The e-mail delivery status report may contain information about senders, recipients, and message bodies.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when the SMTP service sends message acknowledgment information to the SMTP transport process. The SMTP transport process uses the acknowledgment information to generate specific fields in the e-mail delivery status report. If the text of the e-mail delivery status report is not null-terminated, the e-mail delivery status report may include information from the computer's memory about other SMTP sessions that are running on the virtual server.
