"The list or view of the list referenced here no longer exists" error message when you connect to a SharePoint Team Services Web site

Article ID: 840549

Article Last Modified on 5/19/2004

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft SharePoint Team Services

SYMPTOMS

If you delete a subweb in SharePoint Team Services from Microsoft, and you create a new subweb that uses the same name and the same virtual server as the subweb that you deleted, SharePoint Team Services appears to successfully create the subweb. However, when you connect to the Web site, an error message that is similar to the following appears in the Database Results area of the Web page:

The list or view of the list referenced here no longer exists.

You do not experience these symptoms if you create the new subweb in a different virtual server.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if information about the subweb that you deleted is cached in SharePoint Team Services, in Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS), or in Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine 2000 (MSDE) , and the cached information is preventing the new subweb from being created correctly in the same virtual server.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

  1. Delete the subweb in SharePoint Team Services.
  2. Restart Internet Information Services (IIS). To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, and then click Run.
    2. In the Open box, type cmd, and then click OK.
    3. At the command prompt, type iisreset, and then press ENTER.
    4. Type exit, and then press ENTER to quit Command Prompt.
  3. Re-create the subweb in SharePoint Team Services.
