SYMPTOMS
When you transfer files between two Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computers, excessive Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) requests may be generated. This problem occurs if the computer that sends the ARP request does not receive an immediate reply to the ARP request from the other computer.
CAUSE
This problem may occur in situations when the ARP cache entry expires during an operation that involves a large file transfer. For example, this problem may occur if you copy files or if you back up data. Windows Server 2003 generates a higher-than-expected number of ARP requests if an immediate response to the ARP request is not received.
RESOLUTION
