SYMPTOMS
When you create an application by using Microsoft Visual C++ .NET 2003, if you use a nested class in a derived class, the compiler generates error C2555. When this problem occurs, you receive an error message that is similar to the following:
This problem occurs if the nested class that you use in the derived class is derived from a nested class in the base class. This error message states that the return types are not covariant. However, the return types are covariant.
RESOLUTION
A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003 that contains this hotfix.
