Virtual machine display modes

The virtual machine has two display modes:

  • Window mode
  • Full-screen mode

In window mode, the virtual machine appears in a window on the Macintosh desktop. Virtual PC for Mac provides a special window resizing feature for virtual machines that are running Microsoft Windows with Virtual PC Additions installed. When you resize the window that contains the virtual machine, the window snaps to the next standard Windows screen resolution. To resize to a non-standard screen resolution, hold down the COMMAND key while you drag to resize the window. To include scroll bars in a reduced size window, hold down the OPTION key while you drag to resize the window.

Note Some Windows applications have unpredictable behavior at some non-standard screen resolutions.

In full-screen mode, the virtual machine display replaces the Macintosh desktop. The full-screen mode preference specifies the video display behavior.

Note To view the Apple Menu Bar, hold down the COMMAND key.

Important When you change the display mode of the frontmost virtual machine, the change applies to the monitor that contains that virtual machine. You cannot change the display mode of that monitor by bringing a different virtual machine to the front.

If more than one monitor is attached to your Mac and you change the display mode of one of the monitors, the other monitors do not change. To change the display mode for a particular monitor, that monitor must contain the frontmost virtual machine.
