Article ID: 839496

Article Last Modified on 10/30/2006

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Small Business Server 2000 Standard Edition

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Microsoft Small Business Server (SBS) Post Office Protocol version 3 (POP3) connector to download e-mail messages from an Internet service provider (ISP), the messages may be successfully downloaded from the POP server, but the messages are not delivered to their recipients. No errors are logged in the application log.

When you set diagnostic logging for the POP3 connector delivery service to the maximum level, you see the following event in Event Viewer:

Event ID: 4032
Source: POP3 Connector
Category: Delivery
Description: A recipient has been processed.
Recipient information:
NDR Status Code: 400
Error Code: 00000000
SMTP Reply:
SMTP Name: user@domain.com
SMTP Host: server.domain.com

When you telnet to port 25 on the server to test the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) communication, you receive an error message that is similar to the following:
