SYMPTOMS

You have the Microsoft Business Solutions CRM 1.2 Sales for Outlook client configured in Microsoft Outlook. When you click Go Offline in Outlook to synchronize your Microsoft CRM changes and then go offline, you experience slow synchronization performance. It may take a long time for the Microsoft CRM Sales for Outlook program to go offline.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if more data is synchronized with the Microsoft CRM Sales for Outlook client than is required. You may experience this problem because the row filters for the following Microsoft CRM database tables are not optimized for performance:

  • CustomerAddressBase
  • LeadAddressBase
  • CompetitorAddressBase
  • PrincipalObjectAccess

When the Microsoft CRM Sales for Outlook client synchronizes before it goes offline, it uses a Microsoft SQL Server publication. This publication uses filters to accelerate the synchronization process. If a filter does not exist for a particular database table or if a filter is incorrectly configured for a particular database table, the synchronization process is slowed.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next version of Microsoft Business Solutions CRM that contains this hotfix.

Installation information

Install this hotfix on computers that are running Microsoft CRM 1.2 Client or Microsoft CRM 1.2 Server. After you install this hotfix, apply the new row filters to each client subscription. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Disable replication on the computer that is running SQL Server 2000. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Start the SQL Server Enterprise Manager Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in.
    2. Expand Microsoft SQL Servers, expand SQL Server Group, expand ServerName, right-click Replication, and then click Disable Publishing.

      Note Replace ServerName with the name of your computer that is running SQL Server.
    3. In the Disable Publishing and Distribution Wizard for ServerName Wizard that appears, click Next.
    4. Click Yes, disable publishing on 'ServerName', and then click Next.
    5. On the Confirm Dropping of Publications page of the Disable Publishing and Distribution Wizard for ServerName Wizard, click Next, and then click Finish.
  2. Update subscriptions. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Start the Microsoft CRM Deployment Manager MMC snap-in.
    2. Under Deployment Manager, click Server Manager.
    3. In the right pane, right-click your Web server, and then click Configure SQL Server.
    4. Make sure that the correct computer that is running SQL Server appears in the SQL Server list, and then click Next.
    5. Make sure that the correct database appears in the Microsoft CRM database list and that the correct database appears in the Metadata database list. If you have many computers that are running Microsoft CRM SQL Server, click to select the Apply changes to all servers in the deployment check box.
    6. Click Finish.
  3. Start the snapshot agents. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Start the SQL Server Enterprise Manager MMC snap-in.
    2. Expand Microsoft SQL Servers, expand SQL Server Group, expand ServerName, expand Replication Monitor, expand Agents, and then click Snapshot Agents.
    3. In the right pane, right-click CRMPub-Organization Name_MSCRM, and then click Start Agent.

      Note Replace Organization Name with the name of your organization.
    4. Wait for each publication to display Succeeded in the Status column.
  4. Reset Outlook client subscriptions. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Start Outlook.
    2. Click Go Online.
    3. When the Microsoft CRM Sales for Outlook client is successfully online, click Go Offline.
    4. Make sure that the Only synchronize data from my business unit check box is selected, click to select the Do not update Outlook check box, and then click OK.

      Note If you receive an "invalid publication" error message, ignore it.
    5. Wait until the Microsoft CRM Sales for Outlook client has gone offline successfully.
    6. Repeat steps b through e to bring the Microsoft CRM Sales for Outlook client online and offline again.

Prerequisites

To install this update, you must have installed Microsoft CRM version 1.2.

Removal information

You cannot remove this hotfix.

Restart requirement

If you are prompted, restart the computer after you install the hotfix.
