SYMPTOMS
If synchronization of the file allocation table is interrupted, media that is file allocation table (FAT) formatted and that is used with the Transactional File Allocation Table (TFAT) file system may not successfully re-mount. The synchronization may be interrupted by a loss of power, by a system reset, or by the removal of media.
CAUSE
The BIOS Parameter Block (BPB) structure temporarily holds the value of 0 (zero) for the number of file allocation tables during a FAT file system synchronization. If the synchronization is interrupted, the 0 (zero) FAT value prevents the media from mounting on any system. The BIOS BPB structure holds the value for the numbers of file allocation tables in the BPB_NumberOfFATs BYTE element of the BPB structure.
