SYMPTOMS

When you use the Disk Management utility under Computer Management to initialize a group of disks on your Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computer, the initialization operation quits if one of the disks in the list is not successfully initialized. You may also receive the following error message:

Disk Management
The operation was canceled due to an internal error

Therefore, no additional disks are initialized.

RESOLUTION

Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next service pack that contains this hotfix.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, try to determine why a disk was not successfully initialized, and then take steps to correct the problem before you initialize the group of disks. Or, do not select the disk that is experiencing the problem when you initialize the group of disks.

MORE INFORMATION

After you apply this hotfix, the initialization operation does not quit if it encounters an error with a particular disk. Instead, the remaining disks are initialized.

Note When the initialization operation is completed, you may receive the following error message:
