SYMPTOMS

If you try to install Microsoft Windows 2000 when the program is integrated with Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (SP4), the Windows 2000 installation process appears to be completed successfully. However, when you restart the computer to finish the installation process, a Stop error that is similar to the following is logged to the Usbd.sys file:

      • STOP: 0x0000001E (0xC0000005, 0xF3EC39F5, 0x00000000, 0x01010100)


KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

CAUSE

This problem occurs if you install Windows from a CD-ROM drive that is connected to a universal serial bus (USB) port on the computer. In this scenario, the Usbd.sys USB driver tries to access a memory location after that memory location has been released.
