SYMPTOMS

When you try to play a Windows Media Player playlist (.asx) from a Web page, only the first sound file in the playlist may play.

CAUSE

  • The Web page uses an embedded Windows Media Player control with the classID for Windows Media Player version 6.4.
  • The Windows Media Player autostart control property is set to false.
  • The computer where you play the .asx file has Windows Media Player version 9 installed.

WORKAROUND

To work around the problem, do not use the autostart property. Instead, use the Windows Media Player object to prevent the control from playing after the page is fully loaded.
