Article ID: 835739

Article Last Modified on 10/16/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft SharePoint Team Services

SYMPTOMS

When you publish a Web site on a server that is running SharePoint Team Services from Microsoft to another server that is running SharePoint Team Services from Microsoft, you may receive the following error message:

The operation failed because an unexpected error occurred. (Result Code: 0x800704c7)

Additionally, certain components of the Web site, including lists and database information are not published.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if one of the following conditions is true:

  • One or more lists are set to use the Don't Publish setting in Microsoft FrontPage 2002.
  • The default document that is configured in Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) on the source server uses a different file name than the default document that is configured in IIS on the destination server. For example, this issue may occur if the default document on the target server is configured to use the Default.htm file and the default document on the destination server is configured to use the Default.asp file.
  • Microsoft Project Server 2002 is installed on either the source server or on the target server, and the Onet.xml file that is associated with Microsoft Project Server replaced the Onet.xml file that is associated with SharePoint Team Services.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use one of the following methods, depending on your situation:

  • Make sure that the default document that is configured in IIS on the source server and in IIS on the destination server use the same file name, and then republish the Web site.

For more information about how to configure the default document in IIS, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

  • In Microsoft FrontPage, turn off the Don't Publish setting that is configured on the Web pages that contain the lists, and then republish the Web site. To turn off the Don't Publish setting and include a Web page in the publishing process, folow these steps:
    1. Start FrontPage, and then the open your Web page.
    2. On the View menu, click Folders.
    3. Right-click the Web page that you want to configure, and then click to clear the Don't Publish check box.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section of this article.
