APPLIES TO
- Microsoft Systems Management Server 2.0 Standard Edition
SYMPTOMS
The scan tools in the Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2.0 Software Update Services (SUS) Feature Pack may incorrectly report the language version of Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 clients.
For example, if you use Control Panel to change the regional settings of a client computer that is running Windows NT from English (1033) to German (1031), and then you click to select the Set as system default locale check box, the SMS 2.0 SUS scan tools may detect the client as German.
The SMS 2.0 SUS scan tools may report fixes that do not belong to the correct language. Also, SMS 2.0 SUS scan tools may not install the correct updates.
Note You may also experience this problem with the software scanning tools in SMS 2003. An SMS 2003 hotfix is not available. This problem is fixed in SMS 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1).
CAUSE
This problem occurs because the API that the SMS 2.0 SUS scan tools uses returns the regional settings that are set in Control Panel on computers that are running Windows NT 4.0.
