Bug #: 470858 (SQL Server 8.0)
Microsoft SQL Server 2000 fixes are distributed as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2000 fix release.
SYMPTOMS
If you have hundreds of databases and much memory on a server, the SQL Server cluster resource may be marked as Fail when you try to take it offline.
RESOLUTION
Service pack information
To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft SQL Server 2000. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 4.
MORE INFORMATION
This hotfix permits the SQL Server cluster resource to use the PendingTimeout property to monitor the shut down (or offline) process. By default, the value of the PendingTimeout property is 180 seconds.
Typically, Microsoft does not recommend that you increase the value of the PendingTimeout property to more than 180 seconds. If the SQL Server cluster resource takes more than 180 seconds to shut down, investigate why the SQL Server cluster resource takes so long to shut down. If the reason is valid, set the value of the PendingTimeout property to the lowest value where shutdown can complete.
Note The value of the PendingTimeout property is read when the SQL Server cluster resource is brought online. Therefore, if you change the value of the PendingTimeout property when the SQL Server cluster resource is online, you must take the SQL Server cluster resource offline, and then bring it back online to set a new value for the PendingTimeout property.
Note If the resource monitor process uses the SQL Server resource DLL that is replaced during the installation, you must restart the server after you install the hotfix.
