SYMPTOMS

When you install the one of the devices that are listed in the "Applies To" section, you may experience one of the following problems:

  • The scroll wheel does not function.
  • Neither horizontal nor vertical scrolling function as expected.
  • The My Favorites setting does not function.
  • Programmable Hotkey assignments do not function.
  • Button assignments do not function.
  • When you shut down your computer, you receive the following error message:

    Type32.exe is not responding.

  • When you shut down your computer, you receive the following error message:

    Point32.exe is not responding.


CAUSE

These problems may occur if Terminal Services is not turned on for your Microsoft Windows XP-based computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve these problems, you must install a software update.

To download IntelliPoint 5.0 software for Windows XP or for Windows 2000, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

You can also download the full software package for IntelliPoint 5.0 or IntelliType Pro 5.0 that has the update integrated into it. To download the latest version of IntelliPoint 5.0 and IntelliType Pro 5.0, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

If Terminal Services is not turned on for your Windows XP-based computer and you have IntelliPoint 5.0 or IntelliType Pro 5.0 installed on the same computer, your computer may stop responding (hang) about 10 minutes after the computer starts.

If you are running IntelliPoint 5.0, you will see a screen that is similar to the screen that appears on the following Microsoft Web site:

To resolve this problem, update your IntelliPoint 5.0 software or update your IntelliType Pro 5.0 software. However, to work around this problem, you can turn on Terminal Services. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Administrative Tools.
  3. Double-click Services.
  4. Right-click Terminal Services, and then click Properties.
  5. Under the General tab, click Start.
  6. Click OK.

To remove the software update

To remove the software update, you must remove IntelliPoint 5.0 or IntelliType Pro 5.0 (or both, if you have both installed). The update is integrated into these programs. Therefore, to remove the update, you must remove the program and then reinstall the program from the original CD. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add or Remove programs.
  3. Click Microsoft IntelliPoint 5.0 or click Microsoft IntelliType Pro 5.0, and then click Change.
  4. On the next screen, click Remove.
  5. Repeat this process to remove the other program, if both programs were installed.
  6. Reinstall one or both of the programs from the installation CD.
