SYMPTOMS

When you use the Distributed File System (DFS) tools to access or to manage a Microsoft Windows 2000-based domain controller from a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based domain controller, you receive the following error message:

ERROR_NO_SUCH_DOMAIN


Note The DFS tools contain the following files:

  • DFS command-line tool (Dfscmd.exe)
  • DFS snap-in (Dfsgui.msc)
  • DFS utility (Dfsutil.exe)


CAUSE

This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:

  • The Windows 2000-based domain controller single-label domain name is less than three characters.
  • The Windows Server 2003-based domain controller is in a trusted domain.
