Help files appear empty for some users in Virtual PC for Mac 6.1

SYMPTOMS

When you upgrade to Microsoft Virtual PC for Mac 6.1, the Help files may not be displayed correctly. For example, when you upgrade to Virtual PC for Mac 6.1, and then you open the Help files when you are logged on as a different user, the Help window opens, but it is empty.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if all the following conditions are true:

  • You upgrade to Microsoft Virtual PC for Mac 6.1 by using the VPC 6.1 Updater.
  • You log on to OS X as a different user from the user who installed Virtual PC 6.1.
  • You open the English version of Virtual PC Help.


WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, follow these steps:

  1. Log on to OS X as an administrative user.
  2. In the Finder, open the following folder:

    Hard disk:/Applications/Virtual PC 6

  3. Right-click (or hold down CONTROL and click) the Virtual PC 6 program, and then click Show package contents.
  4. Inside the package, find the following folder:

    Contents/Resources/English.lproj/Virtual PC Help

  5. Right-click (or hold down CONTROL and click) the Virtual PC Help folder, and then click Get Info.
  6. Click Privileges in the box under Virtual PC Help, and then in the Group, Owner, and Everyone boxes, click Read & Write.
  7. Click Apply, and then close all the windows that you opened during this procedure. The changes take effect immediately.
