SYMPTOMS

While you view a DVD in Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004, if you press either the Channel Up (+) button or the Channel Down (-) button, nothing happens. The channel does not change as expected on DVD playback.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the buttons do not have any intended functionality when you view a DVD. Although the [+] and [-] buttons appear to be available (that is, the buttons do not appear grayed out) on the Media Center playback toolbar, you cannot use the buttons on either the remote or the MCE playback toolbar.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section of this article.
