SYMPTOMS
When you try to upgrade a Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 project to Microsoft Visual Basic .NET, the Visual Basic Upgrade Wizard may quit unexpectedly if the project contains some third-party ActiveX controls. These controls may be embedded in a Microsoft Windows Form, or they may be part of any custom user controls that you have used on the form.
This behavior has occurred when the form contained Infragistics ProtocoView controls.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because a bug exists in the Visual Basic Upgrade Wizard program file Vbu.exe that is included with Visual Studio .NET 2003.
RESOLUTION
A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Visual Studio .NET 2003 service pack that contains this hotfix.
