SYMPTOMS

When you start Microsoft Windows 2000, you may have to wait as long as 20 minutes before the computer the startup is completed. Additionally, Terminal Services may start in an incorrect state.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because all the following conditions are true:

  • Your computer has been updated to Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (SP4).
  • You have installed the hotfix that resulted in the installation of version 5.0.2195.6797 of the Lsasrv.dll file.
  • The Service Control Manager is set to start a protected service, such as the Protected Storage service.

Prerequisites

You must have Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (SP4) and the hotfix that is described in article 827531 installed before you apply this update.
