APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional Edition
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4

SYMPTOMS

You cannot deploy the Swedish version of Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (SP4) to clients by using a Group Policy object (GPO) if Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP3) was previously deployed by using this method.

CAUSE

Windows 2000 SP4 does not deploy because the version of the Update.msi file that is included with Windows 2000 SP4 has the same ProductCode code as the version that is included with Windows 2000 SP3. Therefore, Microsoft Windows Installer interprets that Windows 2000 SP4 is already installed.
