Desktop Truncates During a Remote Session to a Tablet PC Client

Article ID: 831915

Article Last Modified on 10/25/2006

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Systems Management Server 2003
  • Microsoft Systems Management Server 2.0 Service Pack 5

SYMPTOMS

Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003, and SMS 2.0 Service Pack 5 (SP5) introduce support for Tablet PC clients. After you start a Remote Tools session to a Tablet PC, the SMS remote console may truncate the new desktop. For example, only the top half of the remote desktop is viewable, or the Start button may be moved off the screen.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the remote user changes the Tablet PC screen orientation. For example, the user changes the screen orientation from landscape to portrait. The SMS remote tools viewer does not update the remote environment to obtain the new screen dimensions. The SMS remote tools viewer determines the screen orientation of the Tablet PC only when the remote session starts.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, close and restart the remote session window.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section of this article.
