- Microsoft Software Update Services 1.0
SYMPTOMS
When you try to synchronize your Microsoft Software Update Services (SUS) host with the Microsoft public Windows Update site, you may receive the following error message:
CAUSE
This problem may occur if you have installed the hotfix and added the registry keys that are described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
297324 Multiple authentication dialog boxes are displayed when you use access control
The problem occurs because the SUS Synchronization service does not retry proxy connection requests if the proxy server does not send a "Proxy Authentication Required" error message. Although the proxy credentials are set, the SUS Synchronization service first tries to use an anonymous request. When the call fails with the "Proxy Authentication Required" error message, the service submits the proxy credentials. Otherwise, the SUS Synchronization service does not submit the proxy credentials.
