SYMPTOMS
After you install Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (SP1) on a Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP3)-based computer, Microsoft Outlook Express icons and links may reappear on the Start menu and on the Quick Launch Bar. The Outlook Express icons and links may reappear even if you used either of the following methods to remove them:
- You used the Set Program Access and Defaults tool to remove access to Outlook Express.
- You used the Internet Explorer Administration Kit (IEAK) and selected the Delete all Outlook Express Links check box.

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next service pack that contains this hotfix.

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

Installation information
To download this hotfix, follow these steps:
- Install IEAK 6. If you already have IEAK 6 installed, go to step 2. To install IEAK 6, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
- Start the Internet Explorer Customization Wizard.
- Select the settings that you want until you reach the Automatic Version Synchronization page in the Internet Explorer Customization Wizard, and then click Synchronize All.
- Quit the Internet Explorer Customization Wizard.
- Copy the Ie6wzd.exe file from this hotfix to the following folder:
Drive
:\Program Files\IEAK6\iebin\en\optional - Start the Internet Explorer Customization Wizard.
- Select the settings that you want to create the IEAK package.
- When you reach the Add Custom Components page, click Browse, and then select the IE6.0sp1-KB830394-Windows2000-x86-ENU.exe file.
- In the Parameters text box, type the following parameters for each custom component that you want:
/q:a /n:v
- Click Add.
- Continue to add the settings that you want to complete the IEAK package.
Deployment to client computers
- Verify on the client computer that the Set Program Access and Defaults tool is configured to remove access to Outlook Express.
- Click Start, click Run, and then type the following text in the Open box:

:\IEAKPackage
\FLAT\WIN32\EN\ie6setup.exe /Drive
:"ie6wzd.exe /K /S:Drive
:\IEAKPackage
\FLAT\WIN32\EN\ie6setup.exe"Drive
is the computer's hard disk drive, andIEAKPackage
is the name of the IEAK package that you created in the previous section. - Restart the client computer.
