SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Office Visio 2003, when you open a Scalable Vector Graphics file (.svg) that contains shapes with fill patterns, one or more shapes may appear with an incorrect fill pattern. For example, the shapes may appear with a black fill pattern instead of the expected fill pattern.
Additionally, you do not receive an error message to notify you that the shapes may not appear as expected when you open the .svg file in Visio 2003.
CAUSE
This behavior may occur when the name that is in the Fillpattern box is longer than the maximum length that is accepted by Microsoft Visio. To view the name that is in the Fillpattern box, follow these steps:
- Click the shape that has the incorrect fill pattern.
- On the Window menu, click Show Shapesheet.
The name that is in the Fillpattern box will be in the Fill format section.
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, change the fill color and the pattern for the shape by following these steps:
- Right-click the shape, click Format, and then click Fill.
- In the Color list, click any color other than the color black.
- In the Fill Pattern list, click the pattern that you want.
- If you want the fill color to be black, go back to the Color list, and then click black.
- In the Pattern color list, click the pattern color that you want.
- Click Apply, and then click OK.
Additionally, if you create custom fill patterns in Visio, make the pattern fill name relatively short.
