MORE INFORMATION

The following items are not currently documented in the ReadmeMSDE2000A.htm file:

  • Separate packages for the Chinese (Traditional) version and the Chinese (Simplified) version of Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition: Because of a display issue with the End User License Agreement (EULA), there are separate download packages available for Chinese (Traditional) and Chinese (Simplified) MSDE 2000 Release A for the Chinese (Traditional) version and the Chinese (Simplified) version of Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition. Complete information will be available on the Chinese (Simplified) and Chinese (Traditional) download pages.
  • MSDE 2000 Release A is supported on Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Web Edition: For more information, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

  • MSXML 2.6 is not redistributed with MSDE 2000 Release A. For more information and to obtain a hotfix, see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

The following information has been clarified in the ReadmeMSDE2000A.htm file:

  • Clarification to Section 3.2- Installation Prerequisites: Section 3.2 under the "Installation Prerequisites" heading indicates that an installation of MSDE 2000 Release A is not successful if either of the following two security policies is set to Do not allow installation:
    • "Devices: Unsigned driver installation behavior" in Microsoft Windows XP
    • "Unsigned non-driver installation behavior" in Microsoft Windows 2000
    However, this information does not apply to MSDE 2000 Release A. Neither of these security policies must be set to Do not allow installation.
  • Clarification to Section 3.4 - Install MSDE 2000 Release A: Section 3.4 under the "Install MSDE 2000 Release A" heading will read as follows:

    You can only use MSDE 2000 Release A to install new instances of MSDE 2000. Do not use it to upgrade instances running earlier versions of MSDE 2000. When running the MSDE 2000 Release A version of Desktop Engine Setup.exe, do not use these switches or parameters: UPGRADE, UPGRADEUSER, UPGRADEPWD, or /upgradesp. Use MSDE 2000 SP3a (sql2kdesksp3.exe) to upgrade existing instances of MSDE 2000 to MSDE 2000 Sp3a.

  • Clarification to Section 3.4.3 - MSDE 2000 Setup Parameters: Section 3.4.3 under the "MSDE 2000 Setup Parameters" heading will read as follows:

    You can only use MSDE 2000 Release A to install new instances of MSDE 2000. Do not use it to upgrade instances running earlier versions of MSDE 2000. When running the MSDE 2000 Release A version of Desktop Engine Setup.exe, do not use these switches or parameters: UPGRADE, UPGRADEUSER, UPGRADEPWD, or /upgradesp. Use MSDE 2000 SP3a (sql2kdesksp3.exe) to upgrade existing instances of MSDE 2000 to MSDE 2000 Sp3a.
