PSS ID Number: 829781

Article Last Modified on 9/13/2004

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services

SYMPTOMS

When you configure Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services to send you an e-mail notification to notify you when a document in a document library is deleted, the e-mail notification that you receive lists the user who deleted the document as "unknown". For example, the e-mail notification that you receive contains a line that is similar to the following, where ItemName is the name of the document:

ItemName was deleted by unknown at Time.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because when you configure the Alerts feature in Windows SharePoint Services to generate e-mail notifications to notify you when documents are deleted from document libraries, the name of the user who deleted the document is not displayed in the e-mail notification. The name of the user appears as "unknown" in the e-mail notification that you receive.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section of this article.
