  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server

SYMPTOMS

After you configure a Microsoft Windows 2000-based Terminal server to automatically shut down when the TSShutdn.exe command runs, the computer does not shut down as you expect. For example, if you schedule a task to run the TSShutdn.exe command at a specific time, or if you configure a script to run the TSShutdn.exe command when a particular event occurs, the computer does not shut down.

One or more events that are similar to the following appear in the application log in Event Viewer: Event Source: Application Popup
Event Category: None
Event ID: 26
Date: date
Time: time
Type: Information
User: N/A
Computer: servername
Description: Application popup: SYSTEM SHUTDOWN : System is shutting down in 60 seconds.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if an administrator logs on to the Terminal server and then locks the computer before the TSShutdn.exe command is invoked. This problem does not occur if the computer is not locked when the TSShutdn.exe command is invoked. If the computer is locked, the TSShutdn.exe command cannot shut down the computer.
