SYMPTOMS

When you run the release version of a managed program that was built with the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.0, the program may stop responding. Also, the CPU usage may increase to 100 percent. This problem does not occur if you run the debug version of the .NET Framework 1.0.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when the following conditions are true:

  • The application contains a method that has floating point arguments or volatile variables.
  • The floating point arguments or volatile variables are defined only one time in the method.
  • The method has more than 32 basic blocks.


RESOLUTION

Software update information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft .NET Framework 1.0 service pack that contains this hotfix.
