Account that is configured as the administrator group account is reset to use the default content access account in SharePoint Portal Server 2003

Article ID: 827925

Article Last Modified on 1/9/2006

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003
  • Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services

SYMPTOMS

The account that is configured as the SharePoint administrator group account on the Set SharePoint Administration Group page of SharePoint Central Administration may be reset to use the user account that is configured as the default content access account. For example, if you previously specified a Microsoft Windows domain group as the SharePoint administrator group account, the SharePoint administrator group account is changed to use the default content access account that is specified on the Configure Server Farm Account Settings page of SharePoint Central Administration.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if any of the following conditions are true:

  • You change the user account that is configured as the default content access account on the server farm.

-or-

  • You reset the password of the default content access account.

-or-

  • You add a server to your server farm.

When any of these conditions are true, the SharePoint administrator group account is set to use the user account that is configured as the default content access account . This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

The Windows domain group that you specify as the SharePoint administrator group account can perform administrative tasks in Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server and Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services. Members of this group can perform administrative tasks even if they do not have local administrator rights on the local server.

The default content access account is the user name and password that is used when SharePoint Portal Server creates a full-text index of content that is outside the portal. This account must have Read permissions for the Web sites and servers that are crawled.

For more information about the SharePoint administrative group account and the default access content account, see the Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 Administration Guide. The Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 Administration Guide (Administrator's Help.chm) is located in the Docs folder in the root of the SharePoint Portal Server 2003 CD.
