Users are not part of an audience when you use the Reports Under operator to create a rule in SharePoint Portal Server 2003

Article ID: 827924

Article Last Modified on 1/9/2006

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003, when you view the members of an audience after you configure a rule for the audience that uses the Reports Under operator, you may find that some users are missing from the list of members, even though these users meet the criteria of the rule. For example, if you create a rule where all users who report under a specific manager are selected as members of an audience, you may find that some users who report under that manager are missing from the list of current members when you view the members of the audience.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if all the following conditions are true:

  • The manager of the user is specified in the Manager box of the user's user profile.
  • The manager who is specified by the value in the Reports Under operator of the rule for the audience is the same manager who is specified in the Manager box of the user's user profile.
  • A user profile for the manager does not exist in the user profile database in SharePoint Portal Server 2003.

In this situation, the user is not included as a member of the audience.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, add the manager's user profile to SharePoint Portal Server 2003. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. On the Site Settings page for your portal site, in the User Profile, Audiences, and Personal Sites area, click Manage profile database.
  2. On the Manage Profile Database page, in the Profile and Import Settings area, click Add user profile.
  3. On the Add User Profile page, specify the properties that you want for the profile, and then click Save and Close.
