APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003

SYMPTOMS

When you import Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2001 data to Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 during an upgrade operation from SharePoint Portal Server 2001 to SharePoint Portal Server 2003, you may receive the following error message, where X is a number:

Successfully imported X out of X areas.

Error(s) occurred during the import. See logs for details.

Even though the error message indicates that all items are imported successfully, you may find that not all items are imported to SharePoint Portal Server 2003. When you view the log files, an entry indicates that the error that occurred is a result of a duplicate topic or category name. However, the actual name of the duplicate item is not specified in the entry.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if one or more of the SharePoint Portal Server 2001 topics or one or more of the SharePoint Portal Server 2001 categories that you import to SharePoint Portal Server 2003 use the same name as one or more of the default topics or the default categories in SharePoint Portal Server 2003. In this situation, you receive the error message that is described earlier in the "Symptoms" section of this article. Additionally, the duplicate item is not imported to SharePoint Portal Server 2003.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, change the name or the names of the duplicate SharePoint Portal Server 2001 categories or the duplicate SharePoint Portal Server 2001 topics in the .xml file that contains the data that you exported from SharePoint Portal Server 2001. To do so, open the .xml file, determine the name or the names of the duplicate topics or the duplicate categories, and then edit the .xml file to specify a unique name for each duplicate SharePoint Portal Server 2001 topic or category.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section of this article.
