SYMPTOMS
When you remove a card from an expansion slot in a handheld device, File Explorer may not update as expected. Instead of displaying the My Device folder, File Explorer may display the card folder. This behavior occurs on devices that have 2 expansion slots for Compact Flash (CF) cards or for external storage device (SD) cards.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because File Explorer does not update correctly.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, change the view in File Explorer to any other folder location. For example, change the view to the My Documents folder or to the My Device folder.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
MORE INFORMATION
If you remove a CF card or an SD card from a Pocket PC device, and if the card was the last location that you viewed by using File Explorer, you expect to see the My Device folder displayed. However, when a device has 2 expansion slots for CF cards or SD cards, and when you remove a card from one of the expansion slots, the My Device folder may not be displayed.
Steps to reproduce the behavior
On a device that has 2 expansion slots, follow these steps:
- Insert the CF card or the SD card in the expansion slot.
- Open File Explorer, and then select the folder for either the CF card or the SD card.
- Browse through the folder.
- Remove the card. The system does not update as expected.
