SYMPTOMS

When you close a Microsoft Excel workbook that contains DDE links, you may receive the following error message:

Microsoft Excel has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost.

Please tell Microsoft about this problem.
We have created an error report that you can send to help us improve Microsoft Excel. We will treat this report as confidential and anonymous.

When you click the link to view what the error report contains, you receive an error signature that is similar to the following:

RESOLUTION

Service Pack Information

Hotfix Information

To resolve this problem, obtain and install the fix that is appropriate for your version of Excel.
