SYMPTOMS
Internet Message Access Protocol, Version 4rev1 (IMAP4) and Post Office Protocol version 3 (POP3) clients cannot access mail. You may also notice the following symptoms:
- Affected users are located in the same storage group.
- MAPI mail is not affected.
- Databases that are in the affected storage group are dismounted. When you try to mount the databases, you may receive the following error message:
- When you try to restart the information store, the computer may stop responding (hang).
RESOLUTION
A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Exchange 2000 Server service pack that contains this hotfix.

WORKAROUND
To work around this issue, restart the computer. However, this is a temporary solution that may last only several hours.
