SYMPTOMS
When you log on to your Windows XP-based computer, you may experience a small logon delay when you use a wireless connection to your network.
Note The delay does not occur when you log on to your computer that is directly wired to your network.
CAUSE
After Windows authenticates your credentials, the network service requests an IP address renewal. If the network service does not receive all the encryption keys quickly enough, it may renew the address request. The renewed address request causes a small delay.
RESOLUTION

STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2.
