SYMPTOMS

When an administrator uses the Security Zones: Use only machine Group Policy setting to force all users of the same computer to have the same Internet Explorer security zones settings, privacy (cookie) settings are not affected. That is, different privacy settings can still be set by each user.

CAUSE

In Microsoft Internet Explorer and in Windows Internet Explorer, privacy (cookie) settings are not part of security zones.

MORE INFORMATION

The Security Zones: Use only machine Group Policy setting is located under Computer Configuration, under Administrative Templates, under Windows Components, under Internet Explorer in Group Policy. An administrator can also set this policy by adding a Security_HKLM_only DWORD value to the following registry key and setting its value data to 1:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings
