SYMPTOMS

When you use a USB port to connect your Rio MP3 player or your Rio-compatible MP3 player to your computer, you cannot use the device in a virtual machine.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if you use certain versions of the RioPort Audio Manager software. The issue occurs because the RioPort Audio Manager auto-detect feature conflicts with the parallel port in Virtual PC. RioPort Audio Manager uses the auto-detect feature to detect the Rio device, but the auto-detect feature incorrectly detects a parallel-port version of the Rio300.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use the specific Rio device in the RioPort software. To do this, start the RioPort Audio Manager software, click Options on the View menu, and then click the Rio MP3 player or the Rio-compatible MP3 player.
