SUMMARY

Microsoft has adopted a standard for the information that is presented on the Version tab of the Properties dialog box for Microsoft product updates, tools, and add-on packages. This information is intended to provide customers with additional details about Microsoft product updates, tools, and add-on packages.

This article describes the information that Microsoft has added to the Version tab of the Properties dialog box for Microsoft product updates, tools, and add-on packages. To view this information, right-click the product update, the tool, or the add-on package, and then click Properties. In the Properties dialog box, click Version.

MORE INFORMATION

The Version tab of the Properties dialog box for Microsoft product updates, tools, and add-on packages now contains the following information:

  • Build Date. The date that the package was created, in YYYY/MM/DD format -- for example, 2003/07/20.
  • Company. Microsoft Corporation.
  • Installation Platform. The product that the package can be applied to, including the service pack level, if appropriate -- for example, "This package can be installed on Windows 2000 Service Pack 1 and Windows 2000 Service Pack 2."
  • Installation Type. The type of installation package -- either Full or Express. Full is used to describe a complete package that contains all the files that are required to complete the update. Express is used to describe a package that must connect to a network to obtain additional files for the update.
  • Installer Version. The version of the installer that is used for the package.
  • KB Article Number. The Microsoft Knowledge Base article ID number that is associated with the product update -- for example, 824686.
  • KB Article URL. The URL for the Microsoft Knowledge Base article that is associated with the product update -- for example, http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=824686.
  • Language. The language for the product update -- for example, ENU – English (United States).
  • Package Type. One of the following: Hotfix, Security Patch, Critical Update, Update, Update Rollup, Service Pack, Feature Pack, Driver, Connector, Development Kit, Tool, or Guidance.   • Package Revision. A numeric value that starts at 1 and is incremented each time that the same package is rebuilt.
  • Proc. Architecture. Processor architecture that the package applies to -- for example, x86, AMD64, or ia64.
  • Product Name. The product name that the package applies to.
  • Self-Extractor Version. The version of the self-extractor that is used for the package. This is typically used only if the self-extractor is a separate component from the installer.

For example, a Windows 2000 hotfix package will contain information on the Version tab that is similar to the following:
