SYMPTOMS
When you use Microsoft Internet Explorer as your user interface as described in the Microsoft Knowledge Base article 143164, or you use Internet Explorer as a startup program in a Remote Desktop or Terminal Services client environment, the following behaviors may occur:
- Mapped network drives do not update correctly when you use the following command:
Iexplore.exe -e
- A new window opens when you locate a target window or when you submit a form in Internet Explorer.

CAUSE
This behavior occurs because some features that Internet Explorer uses only function when Windows Explorer (Explorer.exe) is running.
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, do not replace Windows Explorer with Internet Explorer as your Windows user interface. Instead, run Internet Explorer as a startup program in Windows Explorer, and then use Group Policy or Internet Explorer Administration Kit (IEAK) to limit access to Windows Explorer.
